These are all rather positive stories. Unfortunately my experience with both pregnancies was pretty bad. First time, it was clear my boss assumed I didn't want to work hard and made my job more difficult every step of the way. The second time, my boss made it clear before going on leave that she expected me to hand in notice. When I didn't and I came back she made it more insufferable by not assigning me any meaningful work and eventually laying me off. Can you talk about more stories like mine?

I’m sorry to hear you had that experience, and more than once. Unfortunately it’s still all too common. The report we covered shows that one-third of new parents leave their jobs after coming back, and most are opting out of that employer, not the workforce. Many leave for stories similar to yours, which is exactly what we need to change.

This particular article was designed to highlight how to create change around this dynamic, but many of the women including Sarah’s story in the post, made change after having a bad experience. I agree we need to talk more about this!
